Artist's Bio
Bruce Skillicorn

Bruce Skillicorn is an Australian Artist currently residing in Drakes Branch, Virginia. Skilled in a wide range of media and subject matter, including abstracts, pen drawings, pet portraits, water colors, oil painting, reproductions of old masters, theater back drops, other scenic art and digital media and design, he is currently concentrating on landscape painting in acrylics, and oil paintings of people at work.

Born and raised in India where his parents engaged in humanitarian work, Bruce started his art development under the tutelage of Frank Wesley, the “Father of Asian Christian Art”. Bruce has worked toward becoming a full time professional artist since that time. In 1994, he was awarded a degree in Creative Arts and took a final step to make that dream a reality. He subsequently taught theater set design at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ).

In addition to teaching at USQ, Bruce specialized in portraiture. He was named one of two official portrait painter for the Queensland state government. He painted numerous prominent academics and politicians including the then Queensland state Premier, for which he was featured in the press and on television nationwide. It was during this time he had one of his portraits hung in an exhibition of the Doug Moran Portrait Prize finalists (the richest such prize in the world).

Bruce exhibited widely in Australia , and received several honors. He has now expanded to the US and is represented by Galleria on the Lake in Clarksville , Virginia . He is a member of Central Virginia Arts and the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts.
